Running a cardiac arrest from the first minute: rhythm recognition, manual defibrillation, airway, drugs and leading the team. Advanced life support to ALS2 level.
What's covered
- Recognising deterioration and preventing cardiac arrest
- The adult ALS algorithm, current ANZCOR guidelines
- Rhythm recognition, including peri-arrest rhythms
- Manual defibrillation, with an overview of cardioversion and pacing
- Airway management: bag-valve-mask, adjuncts and supraglottic airways
- IV and IO access; adrenaline and amiodarone
- Reversible causes (the 4 Hs and 4 Ts)
- Leading the team, closed-loop communication, and care after return of circulation
- Who it's for
- GPs, nurses and paramedics who would lead or assist at a cardiac arrest: practice nurses, day surgery and recovery nurses, aged care clinical leads, and rural and remote clinicians.

- Prerequisite
- A clinical role (AHPRA-registered or a paramedic) and current BLS skills

Recognising and treating the seriously unwell child, through to paediatric cardiac arrest. Includes weight-based drug and fluid doses.
What's covered
- Structured ABCDE assessment of the unwell child
- Respiratory and circulatory failure in children
- Infant and child CPR and the paediatric ALS algorithm
- Defibrillation energy and pad placement for children
- Airway and ventilation in infants and children
- Weight-based drug and fluid calculations
- Team roles, and talking with parents during a resuscitation
- Who it's for
- GPs, practice nurses, emergency and rural clinicians, paediatric and perioperative nurses, and anyone who may need to resuscitate a baby or child.
- Before the day
- About 8 hours of online learning, at your own pace, finished before the day
- Prerequisite
- A clinical role (AHPRA-registered or a paramedic) and current BLS skills
- CPD
- 16 planned learning hours. [Accreditation pending]
A half-day refresher that is mostly scenarios, followed by the same assessment as the full course. Suitable for experienced clinicians maintaining skills under their workplace policy.

- Reassessment

- Clinicians who completed an ALS course (ours or another provider's) within the last 18 months, and need to refresh and reassess their skills.

- An ALS certificate dated within the last 18 months

A half-day paediatric refresher: scenarios, drug calculations and reassessment.

- Clinicians who completed a paediatric advanced life support course within the last 18 months.

ALS Recertification in the morning and PALS Recertification in the afternoon, in one visit. $700 per person, inc. GST.
For schools, childcare and workplaces that need nationally recognised units. We are setting these up with a registered training organisation.
All prices are per person and include GST. On-site groups start at 6. Travel within metropolitan Melbourne is included. Regional and interstate travel is quoted before you book.
